Scandinavian Wedding Customs

When you are getting married in Scandinavia, it’s important to pay attention to some of the quirkier traditions. We asked bridal planner Mariella Gink to supply us the dirt on some of Sweden’s distinct norms.

Before couples in Viking days, the bride did consider a bath to cleanse herself and symbolically rinse absent her innocence. Then she would bounce into warm liquid to reflect the changeover into woman. Her hair was also a big deal. She may weave it into subtle locks to reflect her masculinity, and the more complex her locks were, the better it boded for the few. The men may utilize a tunic and trousers made of wool or fabric. They would also have their weapons.

In Norse lifestyle, it was common for people to give each of their guests home with items. This is a tradition that carries on today. It is common to see a gift registry at Swedish weddings, but it’s not the rule to obtain huge monetary efforts, as most people can afford to buy themselves a dating norwegian women present.

After the festival, it’s time to celebrate! Swedish ceremonies are known for their lengthy, intricate meal events. The evening may include from eight to 12 speeches, screenings of clips from the bachelor and bachelorette parties, games and songs. A friend of the couple is usually designated master of ceremonies to coordinate all the entertainment.

Another quirky Scandinavian wedding tradition is that whenever the groom or bride leaves a room for any reason, other men will line up to kiss them. This is one of our favorite things to capture on camera as a photographer because it’s so funny!
